The Ability Gardens of Mount Kisco, New York

Here are some of the lovely flowers planted by The Hopp Ground Garden Club of Bedford and residents from Abilities Beyond Disabilities of Mount Kisco for the newly constructed Ability Gardens in front of the Mount Kisco Public Library.

The two organizations meet every other week at Curtis Instruments in Mount Kisco, and have done so since 2009. Carol Steiner, a garden club member who also sits on the board of Ability Beyond Disabilities, had the idea to bring the two groups together to help beautify the area.

Abilities Beyond Disabilities, founded in 1953, serves about 2,000 people, many of whom have developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, traumatic brain injury, mental illness, and often accompanying physical disabilities. It provides them with job training, residential alternatives and life skills that keep them engaged in the community, like gardening.
