Mission Statement
The Foundation of the Mount Kisco Public Library, Inc. was
established in 2005 to support the Mount Kisco Public Library,
its special projects, and the growing needs of the community.
The Mount Kisco Public Library Foundation considers itself to be the primary champion of preserving and strengthening "literacy" -- and all that defines literacy and knowledge in the 21st century--and making it accessable to all segments of the Mount Kisco community.
Raising the Roof on Literacy in Mount Kisco
The Library is no longer just a place to borrow books or browse through a favorite magazine or newspaper. The Library still has books, thousands of them. It still has periodicals and reference materials, too. But many “traditional” public library resources are now accessible primarily or exclusively through digital media and/or online databases. These cost thousands of dollars a year in subscription fees. Providing access to these tools, free-of-charge to anyone who walks through the Library’s front doors, is essential to keeping the library current, relevant and competitive. That is why you’ll also find free, public-access computer terminals in every reading room of the library.
But taxes alone do not and should not pay for all that the Mount Kisco Public Library needs to meet its patrons’ needs. That’s why the Foundation’s mission is to raise funds for the enhancement of the library’s overall functionality, including special programs and events, computers, furnishings, and enhancements to the interior and exterior of the building.. If ever there was an appropriate nomenclature for this organization, "Foundation" is most appropriate.
